Shimmery Layering

Hello Ninjas!

I'm a Blue-Black Belt! Graduation was last night and it went really well. Now I'm counting down the months until the big transition into Fire, only three to go :)

Tonight's manicure was a little simple layering. This is two coats of Noot from the Designer collection by Zoya topped off with a coat of Flashlight from NYC. Flashlight is a neat gold fleck topcoat with little pink and purple bits mixed in. This actually had really great coverage in one coat and two would have completely drowned out the dark smokey color of Noot.

Nub Alert: Essie Ballet Slippers

Hi hi!

So, after three nails broken all the way down to the nail line, I decided it was time to nubbinize the whole lot! This is a color I've been wanting to wear but didn't want to deal with the issue of VNL: Essie Ballet Slippers. This is a sheer polish so I had to do something like 3 or 4 coats to get the color even. I still love the color and it was a nice look with my tiny nub nails.

After two days plain, I did a neat candy manicure with it. This is two coats on NYC Starry Silver Glitter topped with three coats of Orly Beverly Hills Plum. This color is more of a tint than a polish so it let the pretty holo show through while still making the overall effect more jelly-ish.

Essie Bahama Mamma Blinged Out

My nails look like candy right now... Seriously, I want to lick them because they look like lollypops! I'm wearing Essie Watermelon and it's perfect for the springy weather we've been having. However, today's post is about what I wore over the weekend which was Essie Bahama Mamma and NYC Starry Silver Glitter.

Two coats of Bahama mamma looked too plain I guess so I added a coat of Starry Silver Glitter over the top. It was a lovely effect and the darker base color really made the holo on the topcoat pop. Two coats BH, one SSG and one Seche QD.

I rounded my nails off.. I'm not sure which I like better, square or round. What do you think? It's way easier to text with rounded thumbnails for me but I sort of liked the square look on my other fingers.. we'll see.

NYC: Starry Silver Glitter

I was thinking of letting my nails go naked, and they were for most of yesterday. It was slightly disturbing for me to look at my naked nails and their sad slightly yellowed hue so I had to put something on them! I stopped by the local Rite Aid hoping to find the display of oke Doke still around so I could pick up the pretty blue that I'd see swatches of. No such luck, looks like at least my Rite Aid has stopped carrying oke Doke. They did still have the Jesse's Girl collection though, I allllmost picked up firefly but refrained. I ended up finding this pretty awesome NYC glitter for .99$ and picked up a buffing block too.

This is two coats of NYC Starry Silver Glitter over Nailtiques Formula 2. No base color coat here, I wanted something that looked slightly naked still without showing my sad yellow nails to the world. I love this! The silver background glitter is actually a pretty scattered holo and the big electric blue and lavender hex glitters make me think of Glitter in the Air. I bet it would be great for trying to Franken a GitA dupe.

Mardi Gras Mani

So, in the spirit of Mardi Gras, my mani for today is green with glitter! I'm in NY right now doing some wedding planning and you're not supposed to bring Nail Polish on planes sooo I bought a couple of the Wet n Wild FastDry polishes that I didn't have. I got Party of Five Glitters and 9021Orange.  9021Orange never wanted to dry and took forever to start getting opaque so maybe I'll swatch it at a later date. This is Four coats of NYC Big Money Frost (which I borrowed from my MoH) with one coat of Part of Five Glitters over it with a super old (and in need of thinning!) Sally Hansen acrylic topcoat.

These are sooo not color accurate. Big Money Frost is much more green in person and not at al the weird turquoise/blued green it is here. I like the combo though :)

Today's Haul!

So I was feeling pretty crappy all through classes today. I had a headache that just wouldn't go away and it's still a dull ache right now. I had the Fiance take me to Sally because I wanted some polish to cheer me up. Well, Sally sells China Glaze for double what I can get it for online so I ended up not getting anything there BUT there turned out to be a K-Mart next to the Sally so we wandered over there (Haven't seen one in years) and I picked up a bunch of Wet n Wild's new FastDry collection for 2011! I also got two of their new MegaLast colors because the bottles were adorable. We then headed over to Target to pick up stuff for dinner where I got a cute Hello Kitty nail polish pack of 5 and a neat heart glitter from their $1 section. Oh yeah, and a .94 cent NYC because I think I'm in love with green polish now after my Jade swatch... Swatches for the FastDry collection will be coming soon!

Edit: Just wanted to put in the name of the FastDry colors I picked up from Left to Right: Saved by the Blue, The Wonder Yellow, FuschiaRama, Hannah Pinktana, and Blue Wants to be a Millionaire. Can you see the theme here? Also, the Megalast colors are Haze of Love and Club Havana.
